WP-Gravatar
WP-Gravatar started as a simple plugin I made for showing Gravatars on my WP µ powered blog (bloggs.be). After I started using it on that blog, I got some ideas on how to make it better and more useful, and soon the development started.
The plugin as it is now in version 2.7 does a lot more than show a Gravatar. You as the user has a choice of using Gravatars, MyBlogLog or OpenAvatar. There is also an option of using Favico. All this is so the users of your site can make use of their own Avatar. You also have the option to use Wavatar or Identicon or monsterID for users (and sites) that don’t have one of the other Avatar types.
The most common place to show an avatar is in the comment section of the blog, and of course you get that with this plugin. But there are several other places an Avatar can be used. Many blogs are multiple author blogs, and the possibility to have an Avatar for each author, with a brief description and link to the author archive is something that can be very useful. Even for a single author blog this can be handy. There is also an author/owner description widget that pulls information from your author profile to show in your sidebar and displays it with your Gravatar.
When you moderate your comments, you also get the Avatars in the comments admin section. This will hopefully make the task of managing you comments easier and more fun.
One of the best parts of the plugin is that you don’t have to edit any code in your theme(s), but you still have controll over how the Avatars are seen on your blog. You control the placement, the size, colors etc on (almost) all of the places the Avatars are shown. You can also decide what the default Avatar should look like.
Even though I’ve done my best to make this plugin work “out of the box”, there is always the possibility that some sort of problem will arise. In case of problems using and/or implementing the plugin you can use the support forum, the support forum is also the right place to post feature requests.
You can download the plugin from WordPress.org
If you like living on the edge, you can download the development version. You only get the php file, no readme file, no help and no support. It is the same version that I’m using on this site, so the chances that its working the way it should is good. If you like to play safe, download the version that’s hosted on WordPress.org.
Okay, enough talk here is the download link [download#6#nohits] You have to right click and choose Save AS to save the file!
